VARIOUS MEDIATION APPLICATIONS
Mediation is a flexible process that can be applied to a wide variety of disputes. It’s a mistake to assume mediation is limited to community disputes.
In fact, just some of the various ways mediation is used include:
Many family-based disputes can be resolved through mediation, which avoids expensive and stressful litigation. For exampole. couples can deal with issues in a non-adversarial setting. If they decide on separation, mediation can save thousands in simplifying divorce and custody issues. The same can be said for disputes within the family, such as parent-teen disputes and issues with an aging parent. Even probate disputes can be mediated as well.
Community dispute centers can provide mediators for neighbor-to-neighbor disputes and others, such as between consumers and merchants.
Specialized settings for mediation exist for disagreeements between victims and offenders and ones focused on peer mediation programs for schools.
Mediation of court cases range from Small Claims Courts to major cases involving billions of dollars.
The adaptability of mediation is demonstrated in a recent application. Attorneys for Nick Reiner and for his trust established by his parents, actor/filmaker Rob and producer Michele, have agreed to mediate Reiner’s claim on those funds to cover attorney fees in defending himself against the charge of murdering his parents.
Reiner had been eligible to withdraw half of the funds on his 30th birthday two years before the slayings, but neglected to do so. Trust fund attorneys argued that Reiner should not profit from crimes. This simply shows the adaptability of the mediation process.
